Week 28 - The power of AMA 🤩

This week I’ve tried my first Ask Me Anything session about how communities can help businesses grow, and it was amazing from all sides - learning smth new and understanding people’s needs.

So I started with learning because, accidentally, just an hour before the AMA, I decided to check how exactly I can start an online LinkedIn event, and I found that it’s impossible 🤷‍♂️ Of course, I asked ChatGPT what to do with that, and found that I need to have an account on an external platform such as Streamyard.

I created an account there, but I still couldn’t interact with participants in a usual way, like via chat, or invite them to ask a question. Then, it was like 10-20 seconds lag between a stream in the tool and on LI (that’s why the first 5 minutes of recording were just me understanding how it works 😅), and finally, I couldn’t download the recording to transcribe and re-use my answers (that’s why I had to use Camtasia to record the recording and transcribe it afterwards).

Still, the bright side was so much better - I’ve had at least 5 people on a stream who listened and even asked questions using Slido, and in total they’ve asked 13 great questions, and definitely gave me enough material to answer through the whole 60 minutes!

Moreover, these questions were gold because yes, I’ve got ideas about what people might be interested in, still, it was a great validation that I’m on the right path, and now I have 13 more topics to talk about and dive deeper than it was on AMA itself because that’s what people want to know about connecting community and business!

So, yeah, the test was very good, so I’ll continue to hold such AMA sessions monthly, as it helps me help people and collect even more questions to identify knowledge gaps, allowing me to address them with targeted content in the future.

Another thing I’ve not really learned, but validated even more, is that still nothing beats in-person meetings, and if you ever have a choice to meet someone online or in person, it's always much better to go the extra mile, spend some commute time, but meet in real life. It helps build human connection right away and moves you forward so much faster!

And also, I have some updates to my daily tasks:

  • I stopped telling 5 freelancers about the Freelance Fundamentals course because the post is 3 months old and literally 1 person out of 50 liked it recently, so it makes no sense to continue inviting people there (I still share it with folks who tell me they want to start freelancing or need some help with it)

  • I stopped intentionally training my idea muscle a.k.a. coming up with 1 idea daily because I just don’t have time for that, and still I’m constantly coming up with ideas on what to do to grow freelance market in Poland, how to make my personal brand stronger, and how to make more interesting small videos, so I still train my idea muscle enough

  • Instead, I decided to start asking 5 folks per day about advice on how to make my website better - specifically advice, not feedback, because I’ve recently learned that asking for advice makes people feel special, and they’re much happier to do that!

Yeah, and here is my latest small video, so check it and give me some advice on how to make next videos even better 😉

Thoughts of the week:

  • Asking for advice is better than asking for opinions.” - Nudge podcast

  • “Showing effort makes customers value and invest in your product more.” - Nudge podcast

Song of the week:

Book and quotes of the week:

“Chasing information to satisfy our curiosity can sometimes have bigger effects on memory than learning in order to get an external reward.”

“You don’t benefit from mistakes if you have no idea what you did wrong.”

“If you keep returning to that same information periodically, spacing out your study periods in between, the hippocampus can continually update those memories until they have no discernible context, making it easier to access them in any place at any time.”

Tools that I use with referrals:

  • Descript - for anything around podcasting and video editing

  • Manus - for building complex systems and projects

  • Beehiiv - for a newsletter (that’s what you receive 😅)

  • Text Blaze - to access message templates with shortcuts (like “/ty”)

  • Exali - promo “FROMYURII” - indemnity insurance for independent experts in Europe

Daily actions:

  • invite 5 people to give feedback about how I helped them

  • invite 5 people to check my website and ask them for advice

  • participate in a secret LI support group

  • read a self-development book/listen to a professional podcast for 15 minutes

  • make a valuable post/comment on LinkedIn

  • tag 30 people in my database

  • work 30 minutes solely on my business 😎

Weekly actions:

  • transcribe one new episode of the Creator Spotlight podcast and learn something from it

  • transcribe one new DOAC video and learn one thing from it
