Week 10 - Asking for help is hard, but worth it 🤗

It took me only 9 weeks to understand that cold emails don’t work (at least for me), and to be honest, I cringed every time I sent one because even though it looked like “human”, there was 0.0 human part inside 😅

Instead, I started doing something I love the most - talking to amazing people I know, and something I was very afraid of - asking for support 😲

So I’ve made a post on LinkedIn where I explained how exactly I work with companies and individuals. Not too much, but exactly enough to have an understanding where we can click, and to catch up on a coffee chat to see what the future holds for us 😏

The next step was (and I’m still doing it), coming to good people I know well in personal messages and asking them to like, comment, or even share this post with someone who needs it.

The funny thing is that some dormant people whom I asked before to give answers to 5 questions for the amazing humans database, became active. I believe it’s because liking a post is super easy and doesn’t really need a lot of their time and brain power, and even if you help someone in such an easy way, it’s still nice, so I learned for the future:

“Ask for help, and make it super-easy for people to help you!”

Also, everywhere needs to be a system, so I didn’t just ask random people at random times, but made a task to ask 10 people in the morning, 10 in the afternoon, and 10 in the evening, which was also good for my LinkedIn visibility and reach - and the more people would see that post, the better 😎

What results has it already given?

I’ve got one client for personal coaching on freelancing and building a personal brand, two more sales of The Business Community Playbook, and I've had 3 initial conversations with potential clients for community building (also, I’ve learned so many amazing things that people think about me, that it warmem my heart a lot 🤗🤗🤗).

And, 2 more things:

  • I’m not stopping, and will continue asking 30 people daily to support it.

  • It looks pretty amazing on LI’s feature section, and I’d say it’s the best social proof of why people should work with me 🤩😊

Next, at one of the calls, I tried an audit part, and I’d say it worked pretty well, because now, I didn’t tell that working with me will cost you 3-5K euros per month, but it was like this:

  • We can start with an audit where I interview you for 1-2 hours, and ask additional questions afterwards async (if needed), and build you a step-by-step explanation of how community can drive your business, what metrics to track, and what are the first steps to start your communtiy, and it costs only 1K euros.

  • Next, you can either do it on your own or work with me fully to get the best results.

  • Still, if you want to try yourself first, no problems at all, here’s a structured playbook for only 49 euros, which will already give you an understanding of where to go.

Easy? Kind of, it just took me 9 weeks to come here 😅 Still, I’m definitely not stopping 😏

To be truly honest, asking people to support the post with my services was not the first time I tried asking for help 😉

The first time was when the Community Life podcast I hosted was nominated for the Best Community Podcast category in the CMX Awards (one of the well-known spaces in the community world). I’ve done pretty much the same - I made a post about the podcast, the nomination, and asked all of the guests and people who were subscribed to the podcast page to vote for the podcast (of course, only if they’ve ever listened to some episodes and liked them).

The result? I’ve received an email that my podcast is among the finalists, and even getting there (still I don’t know if it won), is already an amazing achievement 🤩

Still, it’s not that everyone who wants to build a really successful business has to learn how to be vocal about what they do, and overall, be in public.

So this week I’ve delivered a speech (in person) with the title “9½ Skills You Must Have To Survive In The Age of AI”.

Just in case you're curious, here are those skills:

  1. Curiosity and open-mindedness.

  2. Smart search.

  3. Flexibility and adaptability.

  4. Communication (written and oral).

  5. Human connections and collaboration.

  6. Leadership and responsibility.

  7. Health (physical and mental).

  8. Digital literacy - AI as an assistant.

  9. Consistency and resilience.

And this speech served 3 goals:

  • Practice my public-speaking skills.

  • Connect with interesting people in real life.

  • Lead by example.

And the “Lead by example” part was super special for me because I took my kid there to show what I really do and how all the things I usually tell him about are working in real life 🤗 and it looks like it worked, at least he started to ask me much more questions about public speaking and human connections 🤓

Last but not least, is the thing I learned about how to really stand out on LinkedIn and ensure your posts have good reach.

So, all the people you see on LinkedIn with 100+ likes and huge comments inside are not there because they’re so amazing that they post, and everyone runs to like and support them… No! It works another way 😏

Those people are members of “Secret support groups” with other creators who post on LinkedIn, and they’re supporting each other by sharing links in a group (usually WhatsApp), and reacting and commenting under each other’s posts.

That’s how you build initial attention around your posts, and the next is up to the algorithm. Still, if you do this long enough, those comments and likes will grow into relationships, and over time, more and more people will be for each of your posts 🥳

So if you’re posting on LI, and don’t have enough reach, find such a group by asking other creators, or create one for yourself and people you know 😉

And trust me, all that I wrote here is the TL;DR version of what happened during the week, and all the momentum I built before coming here, so remember, as long as you’re rolling your sleeves up and putting your hands to work, the magical things will happen 🤩🤩
